For those of you just tuning in a couple weeks ago my roommate asked me if we could get rid of Bandit my dog because he’d been chewing up the garbage, throwing up and other fun bodily functions all over the floor lately. And I’m actually not often home to be there to clean it up. Plus her granddaughter has some sever asthma so we weren’t sure it wasn’t aggravating that. I love my pets like a child, but I couldn’t really argue her reasoning. The lady we got Bandit from loved him very much but because she was diagnosed with cancer. This was a year or so ago and she was too sick to care for him. We decided if we were going to get rid of him we needed to see if she would like him back first. As timing would have it, she is doing much better and her doctor said having Bandit back would be a great morale booster for her. So Praise God. When the reunion was to take place, I told my roommate I didn’t really want to go. I wanted to say goodbye at the house and not have the visual in my head of leaving. (seriously, I LOVE my pets) but because no one else could go with her I was going to have to. So I went to my room and whined to God. “I realllllly would like to not go to this, Lord.” The lady calls back the day before we’re to take Bandit to her and she says she has some doctor’s appointments and would we mind keeping him one more week! (YAY!) So when THE DAY rolled around, I was out of town house sitting for my best friend and was also off the hook. Well it’s been a couple weeks since Bandit has been gone and I still catch myself looking for him in the living room, or expecting him to walk around the corner in the kitchen, I contemplate changing positions when I’m trying to sleep for a moment before I realize there is no big fuzzy dog at the foot of my bed to bother. So in short. Christy needs a pet. So in my head I’m trying to come up with something, ANYTHING. I mean I even have a virtual dog on my laptop. It’s sad. I know. I’ve just almost NEVER been without a pet. And living farm from my family with a roommate in a house FULL of her family makes me a little lonely for something that’s mine. I thought of fish and as pretty as they are…you can’t cuddle a fish…well you can but just the one time, there Lenny. I love birds but they take a lot of care and if they don’t behave they can be noisy, plus the dander in their feathers isn’t the best thing for your lungs (since I’d be keeping the animal in my room probably) I couldn’t get a cat because of the hair or anything that would be stinky. And a friend of mine suggested a hamster. Ladies and gentleman! We have a winner! So this is a good thing I would say. A hamster will be something I can care for and cuddle and take with me when I house sit. A hamster can be contained! They don’t smell! They poo in pellets! And I just called my best friend and they are giving me a hamster cage and a hamster ball thingie.
