An evangelical Navy chaplain is now facing disciplinary action for appearing at a news conference outside the White House and praying - while in uniform. He even had written permission from his superiors to make the appearance - but the Navy changed its rules midstream. He now faces a possible court-martial! This comes as the ACLU continues their fight to ban our nation's military chaplains from praying - and most certainly from praying in the name of Jesus. Also, lunchtime prayer at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, is now under attack by the ACLU. This has been a tradition at the Academy since its founding in 1845. And they are gaining ground. A new Navy policy pushes chaplains to use only "non-sectarian" language outside of formal chapel services. In other words, praying at the bedside of a wounded sailor ... a Christian chaplain should not pray in Jesus' name! These men and women are putting their lives on the line for our sake - and now government authorities declare that they cannot be prayed for when they need it? It is an outrage, nothing less. I say that the men and women serving our nation in the armed forces have a right to be prayed for. I hope you agree - because today I need you to take a stand with me for our brave military chaplains ... for our free-speech rights ... and for PRAYER in our country. Add your name to our petition addressed to the President of the United States, urging him to issue an Executive Order ensuring the right of any chaplain to pray according to his or her personal faith. My goal is to deliver a quarter-million signed petitions to the White House. Let's sound our message LOUD AND CLEAR ... the ministry of our military chaplains should not be subject to the latest whims of the government regulatory bureaucracy. Their sacred work should be protected by Executive Order. Thank you for standing with me.
